A Qualitative Approach to Investigate into Difficulties Confronted by Divorced Women to Manage their Children

Abstract

Divorce as a social problem is one of the key focus of researchers. Among the different dimensions of divorce studying relationships between divorced women and their children also a key concern. This study investigates into the difficulties confronted by divorced women to manage their children. This is study is qualitative and cross-sectional. Through purposive sampling technique, 25 women were sample and interviewed through an interview guide. The information has been analysed thematically. Findings show that divorced women face social stigma. This makes them distress and cannot focus and manage their children. Besides, psychological problems (e.g. tensions, stress, anxiety and depression) are common among divorced women leading to difficulties in managing their children. Divorce women often remain in search for work and sometimes work leading to miss-management of the children. Lastly, residential moves and decrease in interaction with other family members also leads to difficulty in managing the children.
